Senior Process/Process Operator (Mississauga Plant)

Manufacturing Company in Mississauga looking for onboard several Senior Process Operators – 12 hours continental rotation shifts. (7am to 7pm and 7pm to 7am, working every other weekend)

OBJECTIVE

The primary function of the Process Operator is to ensure that the manufacturing process for the line under his/her responsibility is operating within standard operating conditions, producing quality product.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIREMENT 

  1. Grade 10 or equivalent
  2. Experience in a manufacturing environment
  3. Previous experience on similar equipment (an asset)
  4. Ability to understand English written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively.
  5. Mechanical Aptitude

 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Read logbook, change over sheets, and bulletin board for information and instructions at the start of your shift.  Make entries into logbook.
  2. Monitor and stock the lines with packaging materials (cartons, bag tape, poly bags and labels). Clear and store un-used packaging materials as required.  
  3. Monitor material flow, bins, and hoppers.
  4. Ensure all scrap product and sheet material is removed from the lines, ground up and that regrind material is consumed within allowable limits.
  5. Roll and Feed sheets into canopy, trim press and thermo former.
  6. Know where all emergency stops are located.
  7. Move finished product into the appropriate location in the Warehouse and generate license plate.
  8. Refill greasers, oilers and distilled water tanks and complete equipment checklists.
  9. Assist Packers during changeovers.  Watch for mixed product.   Assist with box taping and movement of finished product as required.
  10. Pack product as requested.
  11. Maintain tight control of all materials and keep all forms of waste to a minimum.  Ensure that the working area is kept clean, orderly and safe.  Ensure garbage is dumped, area clean and garbage cans returned to their proper location in the production area.  Check fire extinguishers on the lines once per shift.
  12. Respond to Horn on the line.
  13. Monitor process and product quality to ensure products are produced within control parameters.  Complete check sheets. 
  14. Complete all SPC requirements at the prescribed frequency and take corrective actions, as outlined in procedures.
  15. Ensure material blends are correct and in control.
  16. Trouble-shoot and adjust as needed to always maintain the highest quality yield.
  17. Conduct / ensure preventative maintenance is performed as per established schedules / procedures / practices.
  18. Report problems encountered throughout your shift to the next crewmembers and clearly communicate any problems, along with steps taken during your shift.
  19. Alert supervision, maintenance and/or technical support if anything requires attention.
  20. Assist / support / train other operators and packaging personnel when needed or requested.
  21. Identify equipment maintenance issues that require attention (eg.)  Worn bushings, guards loose / missing, leaks, etc.
  22. Participate in organization / preparation and completion of changeovers.
  23. Do any other job as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

 

SENIOR PROCESS OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Responsible to provide leadership in the absence of the Shift Supervisor (in accordance with their position as bargaining unit member).
    2. Responsible to ensure Operators have a clear understanding of their work assignments and monitor against same.
    3. Responsible to ensure knowledge is maintained within the crew as improved process methods are developed and/or new equipment is added.
    4. Responsible to ensure that all the necessary equipment, process, quality, and sanitation checks are conducted by Operators, as per established procedures.
    5. Act as floating trouble shooter as requested.
    6. Trouble-shoot loaders.
    7. Participate in advanced mechanical and tooling activities.
    8. Train Junior Operators.
    9. Do any other job as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
