Heat Treat Operator / Hardness/Conductivity Inspector

This role is responsible for Heat Treating parts to obtain hardness, conductivity, colour, and /or other specifications as required.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor the process, adjusting times and temperatures to ensure it is running correctly, run the data acquisition software, monitor progress, and prepare reports.
  • Test parts for hardness and conductivity using testing equipment to ensure products conform to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Read production schedule to determine processing sequence and furnace temperature requirements for objects to be heat treated.
  • Set automatic controls, read gauges, and operate electric furnace used to harden temper, or anneal metal parts, reduce heat, and allow parts to cool in furnace.
  • Load parts into containers, close furnace door, and insert parts into furnace when specified temperature is reached, remove parts from the furnace after specified time and air drying or cooling parts in water quenching or other baths.
  • Clean oxides and scale from parts, immersing parts in chemical and water baths or as required.
  • Positions part in fixture, presses buttons to light burners and tends flame hardening machine, according to procedures, to case-harden metal part.
  • Adjusts speed and operates die-quenching machine to prevent parts from warping
  • Signals forklift operator to deposit or extract containers of parts into and from furnaces and quenching rinse tanks.
  • Activate and tend electric furnace that anneals base sections of hardened parts for subsequent machining.
  • Examine parts to ensure the metal shade and color conform to specifications, utilizing knowledge of metal heat-treating.
  • Remove parts from furnace after specified time and air dry or cool parts in water, record time and production data.
  • Managing machine and parts as required for the case hardening of metal part, manages continuous furnace and avoiding parts from warping in die-quenching machine and preventing discoloration.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • 3+ years’ experience in heat treating environment.
  • Hands-on experience with computers and printing equipment 
  • Completion of at least high school level mathematics, physics, chemistry, and metallurgy courses.
  • Quality Control Analysis skills. Able to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Production and Processing skills
  • Knowledge of raw materials, heat treatment processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
