Job Purpose | Overview

 

The Industrial Designer will be responsible for preparing electronic working plans and technical drawings for various products inclusive of lighting and wall products from concepts, sketches, calculations, specification sheets and other data. The Industrial  Designer will review plans and confer with internal and external stakeholder to meet project specifications, complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets. Designers are encouraged to work as a team on new product designs from concept to final product, including rendering mock ups and final architectural renderings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Design and prepare detailed electronic working plans, and scale drawings for commercial products for lighting, walls, and acoustic products
  • Produce detailed, final hard drawings and specifications using dedicated computer software (SolidEdge) to produce design specifications, including part lists and cost information
  • Work closely with production team to select cost effective materials and construction techniques.
  • Knowledge or use of KeyShot to produce 3D renderings of our product line.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to the production staff in the interpretation and implementation of specifications and requirements of the product design.
  • Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction
  • Perform photometric testing to confirm light output profile
  • Perform LED layouts with collective light output within the space
  • Communicate to management on issues that could potentially jeopardize delivery dates so that jobs can be assessed, re aligned or re assigned
  • Develop mounting instructions per the requirements of the client and fixture types
  • Verify required components are available to release the jobs either through stock in house or to be purchase.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • Use Sketchup to create BOM and product schedule
  • Provide production support to ensure final products are being built according to design or update the design through an ECN. Effective support can be accomplished by a daily plant walk through in the morning
  • Participate in R&D projects at a 20% time allocation per week
  • Participate in research to create new, enhance existing product and or process performance

 

Qualifications

 

  • Diploma / Certificate in Industrial Design or related discipline
  • Previous experience AutoCAD and SolidEdge as a minimum
  • Knowledge and or experience in the lighting / LED industry an asset
  • Knowledge in CAD/CAM software.                                                                                                                                                                                    
  • Ability to quickly produce shop drawings and respond to production needs.
  • SketchUp, IES and KeyShot is an asset
